Divination Seventeen: Aftermath
‘He’ll be famous – a legend – I wouldn’t be surprised if today was known as Harry Potter day in future – there will be books written about Harry – every child in our world will know his name!’ (PS1)
Into the Pensieve: Harry is buried next to his parents at Godric’s Hollow in a ceremony attended by grateful witches and wizards from across the world. The Wizengamot meets and elects the fair-minded Kingsley Shacklebolt – who is also a war hero for good measure – as Minister of Magic. Shacklebolt has a bold new message for the magical community, promising a fairer deal for the creatures long suppressed. He is soon in talks with the goblins (now in a much stronger position to negotiate with wizards) and the centaurs, through their new representative, Firenze. The pureblood agenda is entirely discredited and Voldemort’s supporters are removed from the Ministry. There are celebrations to mark Voldemort’s final downfall and Shacklebolt inaugurates ‘Harry Potter day’ on Halloween in lasting tribute to his memory. Lupin lives just long enough to attend Harry’s funeral: he dies soon afterwards and is much mourned by Tonks and everyone who knew him. Bill and Fleur announce that they are expecting a baby. At Hogwarts, Ron and Hermione take their NEWTs: she plans to enter the Ministry, while he hopes to become an Auror. After leaving school, Hermione marries Ron and their first son is named Harry Fred Weasley in honour of their beloved friend and Ron’s brother. Harry has bequeathed his fortune to the Weasley family. He leaves Hedwig to Hermione, the invisibility cloak to Ron and the Firebolt to Ginny while Nymphadora Tonks, the last of the Blacks, inherits number twelve, Grimmauld Place. In the fullness of time, Hermione Weasley becomes the first Muggle-born Minister of Magic and presides over many beneficial reforms including the democratisation of the wizarding world and the gradual emancipation of house-elves. Ron eventually retires after a successful career as Head of the Auror Office. The Death Eaters are no more, though the ancient underground organisation out of which they were formed – the Knights of Walpurgis – endures in some form: a reminder that evil is never completely eradicated. Luna Lovegood works as an Unspeakable in the Department of Mysteries and dedicates her spare time to the investigation (and eventual discovery) of mythical beasts. The well-meaning (if slightly pompous) Ernie Macmillan is well suited to his job as Head of the Department of International Magical Co-operation while a humbler Percy Weasley is content with his Dad’s old position at the Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office. Dean Thomas becomes a celebrated artist and paints Harry’s portrait to hang in the Great Hall at Hogwarts. Arthur and Molly Weasley live to witness several more weddings and to play with their grandchildren. George marries his Muggle girlfriend (to Arthur’s especial delight) and together they continue with Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. Charlie and Tonks eventually get together: both undomesticated, outdoor types with a passion for adventure. Since Voldemort’s death has lifted the curse, Bill is able to continue as DADA teacher at Hogwarts and he and Fleur have many beautiful babies. Neville becomes the Herbology teacher (Professor Sprout was a casualty of the war) and is eventually appointed Headmaster on McGonagall’s retirement. Ginny becomes a Healer at St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. After Harry’s death, Ron and Hermione are especially protective towards Ginny. She will always mourn for Harry in her heart as he was the love of her life, but as the years pass she finds herself drawing closer to Neville, who has long worshipped her from afar. Both have been scarred by Voldemort’s evil but have nonetheless contributed to his defeat. Their romance and belated marriage closes the chapter. The Weasley branch of the Gryffindor family endures.
Omens & Portents: Canonical Clues & Questions
1. Concerning Ron, Hermione & Ginny…
- Is Harry being replaced in some of his vital functions in Books 5 and 6? Sadly, I think so. In OOtP, Ron and Ginny join the Gryffindor Quidditch team. For the first time, we see that Quidditch is starting to matter more to Ron than Harry. This continues in HBP, when (despite Harry being made Captain) it is clear that his real obsession is with defeating Voldemort. Interestingly, both Harry and Malfoy are shown as being detached from school life in this book. Ginny replaces Harry as Seeker in the Quidditch finals of OOP and HBP and even though she is not as talented, Gryffindor still manage to win both matches. (Might Ginny be the eventual inheritor of Harry’s Firebolt? This would be a bequest on equal par with the Invisibility Cloak to Ron and Hedwig to Hermione). While Harry remains outstanding in DADA, we sense that other students are developing their abilities, (partly owing to Harry’s teaching in the DA). Neville, in particular, is rapidly becoming a foil to Harry (something first suggested in POA, when Harry claimed to be Neville while on the run, or even in PS when he dreamed about Neville replacing him in a Quidditch final). I would now nominate Neville, the Herbologist, as the student most likely to become (in the distant future) Headmaster of Hogwarts, while Hermione is most likely to be the first ever Muggle-born Minister of Magic. The trio have an interesting conversation about careers in Book 5, which might well contain clues to Ron and Hermione’s futures: (OOtP12)
2. Concerning Lupin, Tonks & Charlie…
- I want Lupin to survive to preserve the legacy of Harry’s first family, embodied in the Marauders’ Map and Harry’s Photograph Album. From the constant references to Lupin’s health, however, I fear that werewolves have shorter life spans than most wizards do, so he and Tonks might not be together for long. I suspect that Tonks, an active, undomesticated witch, might yet end up as Mrs Weasley’s daughter-in-law and Ginny’s older sister, as bride of Charlie, the down-to-earth ‘outdoor type’, who is her age.
3. Concerning Neville/Ginny…
- While Ginny will never forget her first love, Harry Potter, I believe that JKR is feminist enough to allow her to survive the hero in a meaningful sense. She is a gifted witch and may well achieve good enough grades to become a Healer. (She certainly has a healing effect on Harry when depressed about his father in OOtP29). Ultimately, I believe that Ginny will have a future with Neville, the boy who so nearly had Harry’s destiny. Neville and Ginny, with Luna, form the second trio of the series and in this case JKR has already ruled out a Neville/Luna romance. Both Ginny and Neville have tremendous courage and latent strength. They have much in common, as loyal supporters of Harry, both underestimated, who have grown in confidence and stature throughout the series. Neville and Ginny have both suffered at the hands of Voldemort and the Death Eaters and Neville has the same fierce determination to fight evil that Ginny so admired in Harry. After Harry’s death, they will comfort and support each other. While Neville has long liked Ginny (he invited her to the Yule Ball after Hermione turned him down), Ginny, a popular girl, has shown herself ready to defend the underdog, standing up for both Neville and Luna. Indeed, Ginny and Neville look out for one another in OOtP. First Ginny stops Neville belittling himself to Luna. ‘I’m nobody,’ said Neville hurriedly. ‘No you’re not,’ said Ginny sharply. ‘Neville Longbottom – Luna Lovegood. Luna’s in my year, but in Ravenclaw.’ (OOtP10) Then Neville intervenes to defend Ginny when she is fighting with Warrington and the Inquisitorial Squad. ‘That one,’ he poked a thick finger at Neville,’ tried to stop me taking her,’ he pointed at Ginny, who was trying to kick the shins of the large Slytherin girl holding her, ‘so I brought him along too.’ (OOtP32)
Legilimency… what is JKR thinking?
‘Let’s go again … on the count of three … one – two – three – Legilimens!’ (OOtP24)
- JKR on the last chapter of book 7: “this is really where I wrap everything up, it’s the epilogue. And I, I basically say what happens to everyone after they leave school – those who survive – because there are deaths – more deaths coming.” [JKR, "Harry Potter and Me," 2001]
- Ginny is “a fairly forceful personality (and she always has been…)” [JKR, World Book Day, 2004 – Madam Scoop’s Index]
- Refers to Neville as “the boy who was so nearly King” but does not tell us if he will ever find this out. Also refers to Neville as an “also-ran” and a “might-have-been.” [JKR, website – Madam Scoop’s Index]
- One of Harry’s classmates ends up teaching at Hogwarts, and it is not Ron. [JKR, WBUR interview, 1999 – Madam Scoop’s Index]
- JKR sees Neville and Luna as very different people. She says that, although they share a certain sense of isolation within the walls of Hogwarts, this isn’t enough to foster true love. They might be friends but “Neville would always find Luna’s wilder flights of fancy alarming.” [JKR, website – Madam Scoop’s Index]
- The Death Eaters were once called “the Knights of Walpurgis.” [JKR, BBC-03 – Madam Scoop’s Index]

So uh… when are you gonna start writing book 7? I gotta say this is pretty increadable that you’ve pieced so much together into a coherent and very believable timeline of possibilities. You wouldnt happen to actually be J.K by any chance would you?
Anyways keep up the good work and ill keep dropping by in hopes of updates or new theories.
DDs Man
Hi,
Its an amazing piece of work, read thro all the chapters and it was brilliant how you had spun a lot of loose ends together in this story. I especially liked the reason for Neville’s forgetful nature, which I suppose might be the true reason. Snape’s infatuation towards Lilly is also brilliant.
A few things which I did not like – Charlie becoming the game keeper and Hargrid becoming the head of Griffindor house.
What I felt missing in your version of the story, which I assume might be of great importance, are the potion Drought of Living Death and the gibberish Dumbledore spoke when Harry force-fed the potion inside the cave.
Once again… Amazingly written!!!
Thanks so much, Arun, for your generous and interesting feedback. I should add that those ideas re. Neville & Snape had been around for a long time before I made use of them here… it’ll be good to finally learn if they are correct.
I wonder if your objections to the Hagrid-as-Head of Gryffindor and Charlie-as-Gamekeeper theories are because you think they won’t happen or you don’t want them to happen? JKR has created quite a small world, IMHO, which makes it quite easy to slot characters into new roles. Very neat and satisfying (as a literary game) but perhaps not all that realistic!
To show my working(!):
Gryffindor + Hogwarts teacher – McGonagall (Headmistress) = Hagrid (Head of House).
Spare Weasley x DADA Vacancy = Bill (Character Upgrade).
Spare Weasley x Gamekeeper Vacancy = Charlie (Character Upgrade).
Now, as to the ‘missing’ points, you’re absolutely right… and I would love to be able to tie-up every loose end. :–)
I don’t have a specific theory about Dumbledore in the cave (other than that it was a kind of Potion 101, which makes you relive your worst fear/nightmare/memory), though I agree that we deserve to find out more!
Lady Lupin has an interesting editorial on the subject to be found here: http://www.mugglenet.com/editorials/spinnersend/se09.shtml
I do think it quite likely that the cave drink relates to Dumbledore’s back-story, since he hasn’t had much so far… in particular, I find this exchange quite intriguing:
“You do not seek to kill me, Dumbledore?” called Voldemort, his scarlet eyes narrowed over the top of the shield. “Above such brutality, are you?”
“We both know there are other ways of destroying a man, Tom.” Dumbledore said calmly. “Merely taking your life would not satisfy me, I admit – ”
“There is nothing worse than death, Dumbledore!” snarled Voldemort.
“You are quite wrong,” said Dumbledore, still closing in upon Voldemort and speaking as lightly as though they were discussing the matter over drinks. … “Indeed your failure to understand that there are things much worse than death has always been your greatest weakness –” (OOtP36)
What has Dumbledore been through in life to convince him that there are much worse things than death? (Also, where are his wife and children? Is he a solitary genius alone by choice (still quite likely, IMHO) – or might there be a more sinister explanation? He has a lot of love to invest in Harry…).
As for the Draught of Living Death… well, you’ve convinced me that I might well have a divination missing! Watch this space…
i must ask this same question, give this same praise- are you really JKR? you do a magnificent job of peicing together the precious little you have to a credible theory. one question though, what’s the significance of Molly Weasley saying in HBP that ‘she didn’t know what the clock meant by constantly being at mortal peril, not knowing anyone else who had such a clock..’ is there any significance at all? keep up the great work! Harry’s biggest fan in Kenya.
Hello shacklebolt, thanks for the very kind feedback – I’m flattered. :–)
Interesting point about that clock – it’s certainly been flagged up a few times. (When Arthur is injured in OOtP, Dumbledore suggests that Molly might already know, through ‘that excellent clock of hers’. By HBP, the poor woman has ‘taken to carrying it around the house with her’!)
I’m not sure if this is meant to suggest a further connection between Dumbledore & the Weasleys (his watch, her clock etc.) especially in the light of Ron’s curious birthday present. For my take on the clock’s potential use in the plot, see divination eleven!

how do u do this? i wud never b abl 2 put 2getha storiez lyk dat. r u shr ur nt jkr??
Viva España!
sorry this isn’t really relevant but
WOW!
the only thing concerning me is the draught of living death not being in there but dude! this is amazing!
Thanks so much, jmh and spackerpiller. :–)
Btw, the Draught of Living Death is included now… try the Portkey in the middle of Divination 13!

hi, this is shacklebolt (u inspired me to start writing a blog on how it feels like to wait for HPDH. and i’m now Brayo. short for brian.) well, at least now we know when, can u beleive it, it seems so near yet so far! i’d love to get your input on the blog, Ms. Vablatsky, i think You’re very talented. what do think about the date? any significance?
im curious about your theory on harry using a time turner again…it does seems that jkr diliberatly did not answer satisfactorly when asked about it bt it just always seemed to mt that it wold have been a more straight forward soltioln. Also i have latley been wondering more and more about Voldemorts mother and whether or not you thoght she wold play a bigger role or we may find out more about her….i read all of your work on this site and i was very impressed with it
Firstly love the site, spent all of today reading everything and didnt get any work done, brilliant.
secondly, was wondering whether you have looked into what the title of the 7th book might tell us about it?
Here is what i think:
Hallows across most legends are seen to represent the royal regalia carried by the King, or the objects sought by someone such as a ‘Grail Quester’. Therefore, i think the deathly hallows could just be a fancy way of describing the horcruxes, seeing as book 7 is going to be mostly about the search for the horcruxes. but having them described as deathly probably means that someone will die as a direct result of one of the horcruxes.
As far as we know the only people who know about, and will be looking for, the horcruxes are harry, ron, hermione and RAB. As RAB is most likely dead (referring to his note in the locket), that would suggest that one of the 3 are going to die!
Do you think that is a plausible speculation? would love to hear your view on it.
wow great points on everything youve managed to piece together.
That is sooo dumbledores style to have already met with harry in the future before he dies. I couldnt believe what i was reading. Your words are just like they are coming from JKR herself. And how Harry is almost teased by being allowed to travel beyond the veil and communicate with them briefly.
Anyways I hope that if she chooses to not continue writing that you pick up the slack cause i know ill read it. The way you right …. damn…. your the next best thing
gr8 thoughts.
however u botched up one point when u said “protego” would repel “avada kedavra”. it couldnt even repel hermione’s jelly legs jinx in gof when she and ron are helping harry to prepare for the final task of the triwizard tournament
You did a terrific job, here. I thought I was a huge fan, but you put me to shame!
Hello!
Thanks everyone, for your interest & kind comments.
Just in case you might have missed them – this site now contains two Portkeys (hidden links).
1.) Take a Portkey from Divination 13 for my (current) take on the Deathly Hallows:
http://book7.co.uk/thirteen/
2.) Take a Portkey from Divination 16 to find out how Harry might block that pesky Avada Kedavra:
http://book7.co.uk/sixteen/
Cassy x
Just want to add my voice to the praise above – this really is impressive stuff! Keep up the Seer work
!
Re. the Hallows:
Thanks for those thoughts, Charlie. I do think that the ‘Grail Hallows’ are a very interesting possibility … however, I suppose I’d be a bit surprised if ‘Hallows’ turns out to be more or less synonymous with ‘Horcruxes’. Why did Dumbledore not use the term in HBP? (I suppose you could argue that DD calls the Order “the old crowd” at the end of GOF, but the concept in the title is generally new to each book.)
Maybe the ‘Hallows’ are the relics of the Four Founders, two or more of which happen to be Horcruxes, as in ‘the Hallows of Hogwarts’? I suspect that these objects (when reunited) have an important role to play: http://book7.co.uk/thirteen/ Not sure why that would make them ‘Deathly’, though…!
As for the idea of one of the trio being mortally wounded in the search for a Horcrux … try http://book7.co.uk/portkey/ which also gives you my take on ‘Beyond the Veil’.
OK. Here’s an alternate ending.
Ron takes Harry’s body back, only to be met by Dumbledore. Since Ron and Harry have effectively changed history, Dumbledore, Sirrius, etc. never died. Harry was raised by Sirrius, who never went to Azkaban. Everyone, except Ron and Dumbledore, is completely oblivious now to everything that has happenned. The final chapter is Ron getting his footing in the current reality – Harry and Ron still met on the train and became best friends, etc. Harry ends up leaving a happy life with Ginny.
17 year old Harry and Ron manage to head Voldemort off at the pass and save young Harry and his parents while killing Voldemort – I also agree that 17 year old Harry has to die. Ron returns to the future and finds that Harry is surrounded by family and he, Ron, had been head boy, quidditch captian, etc, – everything from the mirror of erised (Of course, now Ron probably has a nervous breakdown and ends up in St. Mungos, because terrible things happen to wizards who tamper with time….Or, perhaps Dumbledore performs some memory modification on Ron, perhaps giving him the choice to remember of forget.
Seriously, this is my last thought of the night…
If your predictions for time travel are correct, that Harry and Ron time travel back to battle Voldemort on the day Harry’s parents die, then time travel has to play a more serious part. Each of the Horocruxes would have to be distroyed after the day that they are created, but before the day that Voldemort kills Harry’s parents. Otherwise, the cycle would continue. The younger Voldemort would still immortal, because he would have existing parts of his soul (because they don’t get distroyed till 17 years in the future.) The main events of Book seven would have to happen mainly in the past. Very quantum physics. Perhaps much of the book is spent with Harry, Hermoine and Ron popping back and forth, past to present, and watching how reality is changing with thier efforts… (I seriously doubt it, but it is an idea.)
Ah… ok, one more.
Dumbledore says that ‘one person could not have done it alone’ when he distroys goes to get the necklace horocrux. This has bugged me, and I think at one point, someone suggested that Regalus did it with Kreacher. What if Regalus did it with Harry? What if this is why Dumbledore took Harry with him in the first place? To teach him how it should be done.
OK. Really. no more tonight.
Hi Susana, v. imaginative. :—)
Just to clear up a few points…
a) My theory is designed so that Harry’s time-travel *doesn’t* change the future. The only purpose of Harry’s return to Godric’s Hollow is for him to save his younger self and defeat the first Voldemort… which has already happened (if that makes sense!). Other than that, Harry doesn’t alter his past (the timeline of Books 1-6) at all …
b) As you astutely noted, Voldemort is still immortal (because his Horcruxes aren’t destroyed until 17 years into the future), so … the books happen absolutely as before and the second Voldemort (who was reborn) goes back in time to battle with the older Harry at Godric’s Hollow. Harry defeats Voldemort twice on the same night!
c) Left behind in the ruins are the bodies of Lily & James & (presumably) the first Voldemort. The second Voldemort’s body conveniently melts (JKR hinted there was a reason for all that gory detail in GOF!) Wormtail (in rat form throughout) flees the scene with Voldemort’s wand between his teeth. Hagrid & Sirius arrive (independently) to find the baby (Harry knows that both of them were there & will have told Ron about the motorcycle). Ron (using Dumbledore’s watch) returns to the (unaltered) future with Harry’s body. Harry is buried next to his parents in the graveyard at Godric’s Hollow. Of course, all JMHO …
d) Btw, I think it was Kreacher! See http://book7.co.uk/seven/
hi loved your site/thoughts. you have pout a ;lot of good ideas to pen and paper and I am sure some will come true. Esp liked the Neville memory rationale.
I have one theory regarding DD’s death. In HBP he tells Harry that even after LV is rendered mortal again it will still take a witch or wizard of great strength and skill to kill him. When Harry’s mum died to protect him – sacrificing herself 4 him she added significant protection to him thru love. DD essentially sacrificed himself for Harry in the tower. If he had not body bound Harry by curse they would have been able to owerpower Malfoy. We know he loved Harry and thought that his life was more valuable than his own. By sacrificing himself thru love he could have added significant power/protection to Harry. This could be the power that the dark lord knows not. In the prophecy it could have been referring to a confrontation in the future or power that LV knows not in more than instance.
DD would have been aware that Harry’s protection afforded by Lily’s death/sacrifice was short lived and that some more current help would be of assistance to Harry.
Cheers Mike
f
The Shacklebolt as Minister of Magic is a fantastic idea (he shows himself to be a capable liar – just what a successful politician needs to be.
I also liked the Neville/Ginny idea…perhaps your arguments are going to sway me into the ‘Harry will die’ camp!
Hi,
i have chanvged my views on the meaning of the title. deciding that deathly is a very different word to deadly. also realising that hallows is in reference to all hallow’s eve (halloween) or all saints eve.
leading me to think either there is going to be contact in some way with saints or spirits who are deathly (ie, from behind the veil). and most probably this will happen on halloween, not only because in mythology halloween is when the veil is meant to be thinnest between the two worlds, but also if you look at the first 4 books, the major character/event is introduced on halloween.
looking at egyptian mythology, which i cant be bothered to explain about (lots of sites if you just google it), i predict that harry will have contact with sirius some how. (search sirius the constellation/star, i dont really understand it well enough to explain)
Hi,
Good points, Charlie!
You might be interested in my Divination 13¾ which does suggest that Harry will pass (metaphorically) beyond the veil & return, though not necessarily on Halloween… see http://book7.co.uk/hallows/
(As you’ll know from Divination 16, I have something else in mind for All Hallow’s Eve, which I see as the date of Harry’s once-and-future defeats of Voldemort & his death.)
Hi!
I don’t think in deaths of young wizards, if somebody has to die is the old people like Dumbledore, in that way you can explain and justify the war between good and evil (ying-yang, cielo-infierno) will continue, this saga is only a little piece in the wizards history. Is really amazing all the ideas you put together, you’re a master of the Harry saga, you must be JKR!!!!
Yeah, this is the real plot, the plot is here in front of us, all this time, it was you….
This is a briliant piece of imagination(Absolutely)but leaving few moments I believe the real story would be completely different than this. After all Jk cant be as weird as you are.
JKR has mentioned that 1 person survived who she didn’t expect to, and 2 didn’t who she did expect to. The (potentially) obvious choices for the 2 who died are Hagrid and Fred (although if I am wrong, and you think it was someone else, who) – but who got the reprieve? My personal suspicion is that it might be either Percy , or possibly Malfoy (how exactly that would work, I don’t know)
Hello
wonderful work but didnt jkr say no timetravel in this. I might be wrong but i am sure she did. She has also been quoted saying harry is not a hor. But this was an awesome story I admit.
Hello!
Harry will not die… it’s simple. He must live to become a new Dumbledore, he has to train the next Harry Potter in order to continue the eternal fight: good vs evil. JRK is just writting pieco of that long fight but it must continue, and another Voldemort will rise.
Thanks.
Hmm Roger … I’ll take that as a compliment.
Ferris Valyn, I think you could be right about Percy or Malfoy being given a reprieve. Percy would be my choice!
To respond to samsung: JKR has refused to comment on the question of Harry time-travelling again … leading people to think that he might! See http://www.accio-quote.org/themes/harry.htm: Will Harry Time travel again? JKR: “Not telling!” [AOL chat, 2000]
And as for Harry as a Horcrux, JKR has given absolutely no comment (as far as I’m aware). Thus implying it’s at least a debate we should be having! The best directory of JKR quotes on the web can be found at http://www.accio-quote.org/
Like your thinking, the_edge. I agree that the cosmic battle will never be truly won (although I hope very much there is no new Voldy just yet!). However, it seems Harry will not take Dumbledore’s place as Headmaster, JKR having ruled out an academic career for him: JKR doesn’t think Harry will become Headmaster of Hogwarts because an academic career just isn’t right for him (“He’s seen too much action”). [World Book Day, 2004]
This is an amazing site! I pretty much agree with everything you said…how on earth did you come up with all the little details??? Although i def think he will, i really dont want harry to die! Do you think there’s any way he can survive?? The stories just seem kinda pointless if he does (altho i know he would need to die of he does…)
Hey amazing peice of work thanks everytime i read it makes me wonder with new possibilities.
But ifound one chink in your armour.. I dont think Harry would time travel as back as when his parents were killed…
If he really would have then he would have tried to save his mother and father as well that he loved too much… how cud he leave them alone and moreover if he had to he could have Killed Voldemort when he was like 11 or even younger it would have been easy and uncomplicated, So what i mean to say is it doesnt work like this, if it had dumbledore wud have suggested or thought abt it so much earlier.. I mean it is kinda easy way out Rowling would frame a thought of plot like that in the grand event ie the last book..
this is what i thought wat do u think neways? other than that thanks for such brilliant theories , d site rocks..
PS: Harry and his frnds smashed the time turners in the prophecy room didnt they??
and an interesting thought , can u possibly suggest why time turners and prophecies maybe kept in the same room .
thanks hope u reply
This is incredible! I like how it’s realistically depressing but doesn’t go overboard
I think harry will survive and return to hogwarts as the DADA teacher, Jk has already shown that he can teach dumbledores army. Jk has continually left the DADA position open each removing the teacher in some why or form. With Voldermort dead by the hands of harry, who better to teach DADA than Harry. This ending would relate to JK’s own carrer as a teacher. Futhermore Harry has always considered Hogwarts as his home, this ending would cement the idea that he will be able to stay for a long time to come possibly become headmaster.
I dont think the back in time theory works. If that was the case why over the past six years or before when dumbledore would have known where voldermort or tom riddle is or was, including after lily and james death or when he was in school at hogwarts did dumbledore himself not go back in time and stop voldermort then. The whole time travel theory doesnt make sense cause it works both ways, voldermort could easily do the same why does he not go back and warn himself not to try to kill harry. The time travel theory if thought about, could easily ruin the whole idea of Jk’s world if you think about it too much
Lots of wonderful ideas!
However, about half way through the story, the ideas become a bit too ridiculous.
JK said that that last word of the series is “scar,” so that doesnt end with the weasleys…
This outline demonstrates a mastery of understanding the ideas in Harry Potter, but we’ll see the real ideas that JK conjures up in a few more weeks!
Well ‘Cassandra’, I do not believe I have ever seen, in all my life, a well thought up and composed theory as yours. It is quite astonishing how you have made up an extremely believable version of Book 7 – so believeable in fact that I would in no way be surprised at all if the actual book turns out to be extremely close to this. You should be proud of yourself. If you hadn’t given away the fact you weren’t JK Rowling I would’ve believed that you were her, but you aren’t – your as good to be her though.
I hate to admit it, but if Book 7 dosne’t turn out to be close to his then I think I may be hugely disappointed. I have always, like yourself, imagined the worse for Harry. I have always thought that he would die in a heroic manner. I have also always thought that Book 7 would indeed be the darkest and most emotional of the books. You’ve done a brilliant job at making that happen.
Well done once again on a superb theory that, real or not, makes one hell of a final book and one hell of a conclusion.
Hello all, thanks for your comments, sorry to be “realistically depressing” selenium! You never know, Harry might live…
I agree, Daniel, that Harry made a good (substitute) DADA teacher leading Dumbledore’s Army in OOtP, however JKR gave an interview in which she ruled out an academic career for Harry in the future. There’s a link to it here: http://www.accio-quote.org/themes/harry.htm
Two points on time-travel a) Saurabh – I agree that Harry’s every instinct would be to intervene, that’s why I imagine Ron would be there to keep him on course … he knows that his parents gave their lives for him so would not want that sacrifice to be wasted!
Interesting point, re. Dumbledore, Daniel – how much *did* he know about the events at Godric’s Hollow? Some suggest that he was there, invisible, to witness events. I am beginning to wonder if he might not have turned up (just) afterwards to witness Ron’s moment with baby Harry (knowing that the Potters were dead). However, the key point about DD’s non-intervention must be that only Harry could fulfil the Prophecy … as JKR has already said in response to the question of why Dumbledore didn’t try to kill Voldy at the Ministry in Book 5. As for why future Voldemort didn’t go back to warn his past self … I postulate that he went back instead to ambush Harry on the night.
To Amadeus Ezra, you might have spotted that the previous divination did end with Harry’s scar! The one you’ve commented about is really the epilogue as distinct from the main story. (Btw, we now know from JKR that the last word is *not* scar any more!)
Thanks for the compliment, Brad, I really appreciate it, it’s been great fun to write ;–)
